Israel at 59: Playing with Fire, photograph by Joshua Miller.

A man shows off his fire-spinning skills in an impromptu performance at a large street party in Tel Aviv, Israel on Yom Ha’atzmaout, Israeli Independence Day. Thousands of people descended on Florentin Street in southern Tel Aviv for a boisterous party in the street that pulsed on, techno music thumping, until the early hours of the morning. All over Israel people celebrate that their country, against all odds, has survived — and prospered — for 59 years.
